Sarah Robertson has a keen interest and involvement in the art and culture of native American Indian tribes. Her research is first hand through travels to the USA where she has made many contacts in pursuit of her studies. Her artwork is authoritative and accurately reflects many of the elements, icons and symbols found in native American Indian culture.

Sarah Robertson skilfully uses combinations of watercolour, ink and pastel to express the landscape and architecture of the American south-west. Most interestingly her use of handmade paper and sandpaper adds a subtlety to the substrate of many of her pictures. By combining these effects with purely visual elements such as landscapes, architecture, symbols and icons the artwork assumes a more spiritual depth.
