Sally Winters work is marked by a spontaneous handling of media that
imbues her paintings and drawings with an energetic, dynamic quality.
Either indoors or outdoors we can be certain that her watercolour paintings,
done on the spot, represents a sincere and sensitive attempt to capture
a fleeting instant of time. The mood of the moment is conveyed powerfully
in her paintings and drawings. A storm-lashed landscape, the stressed
pose of a figure, a still-life arrangement in a quiet room. It is emotional
involvement with the scene before her that she strives to convey clearly
through her work.
Her watercolour and pastel works show high regard for shape, colour
and pattern across the picture plane. Figures are captured in life-drawings
through broad strokes of charcoal quickly applied, with as much respect
for the medium as the image represented.
