Painting,
for me, is a lifelong passion. My inspiration is drawn from many sources
some, like seashore, wildlife and cities are visual whilst others, such
as music, mathematics and time are abstract. It seems inevitable therefore
that some of my paintings will be abstract whilst others will be representational.
I always carry a sketchbook to record the sights and sounds of my surroundings.
From the sketches I produce paintings in my studio. Such a variety
of subjects and ideas help me to retain a fresh vitality in my work.
I am
interested in the surface quality of my paintings and to this end I
combine the directness of knife paintings with the subtleties of brushwork.
I
often apply colours as glazes so as to produce a translucent quality
to the painting.
