Martin Mulhern is very much a draftsman rather than a painter. Attracted to 'dry' media he renders most of his work in coloured pencil and enjoys the versatility and challenges that this offers him through the slow build up of colours.

Many of Martin Mulherns artworks are accompanied by his poetry that emerges simultaneously with the visual idea for a picture.

He is influenced by many sources but admits deriving great inspiration from the work of artist Gary Greene.
