Distinctive, colourful, influenced by the richness of nature, Katherine's work is constantly moving forward: there are discernible themes, but no two pieces are identical. Her ability to innovate is underpinned by craftmanship and experience. Each new phase of work begines with seeking inspiration in the West Dorset countryside. She draws and paints flowers and trees, water, skies and landscapes, capturing form and colour. These studies are evolved into designs and married to the form of the pot. Once the thrown form is leatherhard, Katherine draws directly into the clay. Underglaze colours are layered onto the surface, to acheive an unusual depth and texture. The result is a narrative in three dimensons, fixing the movement and transience of the natural world. Katherine Lloyd studied Art and Design at Dartington College and apprenticed as a potter at the Briglin Studios, London. She was assistant to the designer at Moorcroft Pottery for three years, before establishing her own studio in West Dorset in 1992. Katherine Lloyd works to commission with individually decorated pieces.
The normal time to complete work is 8 weeks to a price range of £150
to £600. |
