Many of the contemporary subjects that Andrew Pitt focuses on echo a tradition of plein air painting inspired by the scenery of East Anglia. It is tempting to make comparisons with the Norwich School, in the sense that Andrew Pitts paintings capture moments of time and fleeting impressions of everyday scenes. Certainly, Andrew Pitt's landscape paintings reflect an interest in nature that is tempered by a sensitive feel for media, whether watercolour or oil paint. Andrew Pitts paintings are technically accomplished. Deftness of individual brushstrokes in the oil paintings give an immediacy and freshness to the work. The watercolours depict 'snapshots' of time with luminous washes that flicker across the surface of the picture. Andrew Pitt will take commissions to work in oil or watercolour landscape painting and the average time to complete work is six weeks. A 10 x 14 ins oil painting costs approximately £150 and an equivalent size watercolour costs approx £100 depending on work. |
